About the

find your burren book

To be published by Bloomsbury in early 2027, Find Your Burren focuses on the power of nature to inspire creativity. The book will feature an amazing and inspirational region in Ireland known as the Burren, which provided the original spark for this project. But the book isn’t just about one place; more broadly, it’s about how to escape the distractions of the modern world by venturing out into nature—and then allowing yourself to think more deeply, to pursue meaningful questions and ideas, and ultimately bring your own original creations into the world.

The idea for this book originated when I first discovered the Burren several years ago during a trip to Ireland and learned that this locale had a reputation for inspiring creative artists. Around the same time, I became aware of the growing field of environmental neuroscience, which is discovering fascinating links between nature and creativity. This led me to the central idea: There are places out there in nature that can actually change the way our minds think—enabling us to be more imaginative and creative. We should identify those special places and go to them. But we must also know what to do when we get there—and after we come back.

Among the key questions to be covered in this book:

  • What is the connection between being out in nature and coming up with creative ideas and insights?

  • What kind of natural settings seem to have the most powerful effects—and how can you find places like that, that are accessible to you?

  • How can you prepare yourself—and then conduct yourself—so that you’re apt to have the most imaginative, inspirational moments when out in nature?

  • How can you bring that inspiration back home to your “cave”—that enclosed space where you must hunker down and do the “indoor work” of giving form and substance to your fresh ideas?

Find Your Burren is an ambitious and exciting project—and I’ll keep you posted, through this online journal, on progress and new developments as I continue to write the book. Please subscribe below, and get my free ebook STOP•THINK•CREATE.

I’d like to extend an invitation to those who might want to participate in the creation of this new book. There are a couple of possible ways to do that—one very simple, the other more challenging (and creative). I’ll be offering a special incentive to participants.
